Two Hundred and Fifty Years of Freedom
Happy Anniversary, America!
By Craig & Lori Weyer | Stay Brewed Coffee & Roastery | Saint Anthony, Indiana
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of men — farmers, lawyers, tradesmen, and
preachers — signed their names to a document that changed the history of the world. They
were not guaranteed to win. They were not guaranteed to survive. They were guaranteed only
that what they were doing mattered, and that the cost of not doing it was greater than the cost
of everything it might take.
America turns 250 this year. And in a season when it can sometimes feel hard to hold onto the
things that made this country worth building, we think that milestone is worth stopping for.
Worth honoring. Worth raising a cup over.
Stay Brewed Celebrates America
At Stay Brewed, we’ve always believed that coffee is more than a beverage. It’s the thing you
reach for before the day begins — before the noise, before the obligations, before anything has
had a chance to pull you away from what matters most. It’s the quiet moment. And quiet
moments are good moments for remembering.
So this July, we’re raising ours to 250 years of the American experiment — and to the people
who keep it going.
Dawn’s Early Light
Francis Scott Key stood on a ship in Baltimore Harbor on September 14, 1814, and watched
through the smoke and the dark to see if the flag still flew over Fort McHenry. It did. The fort
had not surrendered. Out of that moment came the words every American schoolchild knows
by heart.
We named our Honduras light roast Dawn’s Early Light in honor of that moment — of
resilience, of bravery, of the refusal to give up the ground you’ve been given to hold. It’s a
vibrant, bright roast: tart apple, sweet vanilla, and nutty flavors with a resonant lemon and
buttery finish. The kind of cup that feels like the morning after the battle, when you’ve made it
through and the flag is still there.
1776
The year doesn’t need much explanation. It was the year a new nation declared, in plain and
unambiguous language, that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with
unalienable rights. It was an audacious claim. It was also the beginning of the longest-running
constitutional republic in human history.
Our 1776 roast carries that weight lightly — as good coffee should. It’s a roast that honors the
boldness of that year without forgetting the grace that had to carry it through. A worthy cup for
the anniversary year.
Team America
Not every expression of patriotism has to be solemn. Some of it is just — belonging. Knowing
you’re part of something. Knowing that the people next to you, across the street, across the
state, are in this with you.
Team America is our most popular patriotic blend, and it’s popular for exactly that reason. It’s
the coffee you bring to the Fourth of July gathering. The one you hand a neighbor over the
fence. The one you brew on a Saturday morning when the flag is out and the grill is coming on
and the day feels full of the good kind of ordinary American life.
We also offer the Team America Sampler — four of our best fresh-roasted coffees together —
if you want to share the moment with someone who hasn’t found us yet. There’s no better time.
Two Hundred and Fifty Years, One Cup at a Time
America didn’t get to 250 by accident. It got here because generation after generation of
ordinary people decided — quietly, daily, without fanfare — to keep showing up. To stay the
course. To stay brewed.
That’s what our name has always meant. Not just for coffee. For life. For faith. For family. For
the freedom that was paid for in full before any of us arrived, and that we are responsible for
passing on.
This July, however you celebrate, we hope there’s a great cup of coffee in your hand. And we’d
be honored if that cup came from our family in Saint Anthony, Indiana.
