Why We Roast in Saint Anthony, Indiana (And Why It’ll Never Change)
By Craig & Lori Weyer | Stay Brewed Coffee & Roastery | Saint Anthony, Indiana
People sometimes ask us if we’re going to move the roastery.
Get a bigger space somewhere. Find a building in a city with more foot traffic. Set up in Evansville or Indianapolis where the customer base is larger and the logistics are easier.
The answer is no. It has always been no. And it will always be no.
This is about why.
Saint Anthony Is Not an Accident
Saint Anthony, Indiana is a small town in Dubois County — the kind of place that doesn’t show up on most maps and doesn’t need to. It’s a community built on faith, hard work, and the quiet conviction that a good life doesn’t require a big city to contain it.
Craig Weyer grew up in this part of Indiana. He knows its rhythms — the farms, the factories, the families that have lived here for generations. When he and Lori started Stay Brewed in 2019, they didn’t choose Saint Anthony because it was convenient. They chose it because it was home. Because the values that built this community are the same values that Stay Brewed is built on.
You don’t leave home when home is the whole point.
The Garage That Started It All
Stay Brewed began in Craig and Lori’s garage. A small roaster, a big idea, and a family that believed in both.
That garage is still where we roast. We converted it into a licensed commercial kitchen. We added a larger roaster alongside the original. We built out the infrastructure to ship fresh-roasted coffee nationwide. But the address hasn’t changed, the neighborhood hasn’t changed, and the people doing the roasting haven’t changed.
There is something important about that continuity. It would have been easy — maybe even sensible — to outgrow the garage and move somewhere larger and more anonymous. But the garage is where this started. It’s where Craig learned what he was building and why. It’s where the girls grew up watching their parents work. Moving the roastery would mean leaving something behind that we don’t want to leave behind.
So we stayed. We grew into the space instead of out of it.
What Small-Town Indiana Means to Us
Saint Anthony sits in Dubois County — one of the most productive agricultural counties in Indiana, surrounded by the kind of landscape that reminds you where food actually comes from. Farms. Fields. Families who have worked the same land for generations.
Craig’s grandfather Lawrence Fritz was part of that world. He worked nights at Alcoa and farmed during the day — the kind of double-shift life that built the American middle class and doesn’t ask for recognition. Lawrence modeled something that Craig has never forgotten: that good work, done faithfully, day after day, is its own reward. That you show up not because someone is watching but because that’s who you are.
That ethic is in the soil here. It’s in the people. And it’s in every roast we ship out of this garage.
When we say Stay Brewed is rooted in Faith, Family & Freedom — those aren’t abstract values we picked off a list. They are the lived reality of this community. They are what Saint Anthony looks like when you grow up in it and choose to stay.
Why It Matters Where Your Coffee Comes From
There are roasteries that list a charming small town on their bag but actually operate out of a warehouse in an industrial park three states away. We are not one of them.
When your Stay Brewed order ships, it leaves Saint Anthony, Indiana. It was roasted here, packaged here, and sent to you from here — by Craig and Lori and the family they’ve built in this place.
That’s not a detail. That’s the whole story.
We believe it matters where things come from. It matters who made them, and why, and what they were thinking about when they did. A bag of coffee is not just a commodity. It is the end product of decisions made at every step — which beans to source, how to roast them, how quickly to ship them, whether to cut corners or do it right.
Every decision we make is made in Saint Anthony, Indiana, by a family that lives here and intends to keep living here. That accountability is built into every bag.
A Town Worth Rooting For
Small towns across America are fighting for their futures. The forces pulling people toward cities — jobs, opportunity, convenience — are real, and the communities left behind feel it.
We are not naive about this. Saint Anthony is not immune to the pressures that every small town faces.
But we also believe that small businesses are one of the most powerful forces for keeping small towns alive. When Stay Brewed does well, it means a family stays in Saint Anthony. It means dollars circulate locally. It means we can give back to our church and our community — which we do, because we believe generosity is the engine of a thriving community, and we want to help keep this one thriving.
Every bag of Stay Brewed you order is, in a small way, a vote for Saint Anthony, Indiana. It’s a vote for the idea that you don’t have to be in a city to build something worth having. That a garage in a small town is a perfectly good place to start something real.
We think that’s worth something. We think you might too.
