Faith, Family & Freedom: Why We Put Values on Our Coffee Bags

By Craig & Lori Weyer | Stay Brewed Coffee & Roastery | Saint Anthony, Indiana

Walk into most coffee shops and you’ll find words like “artisan,” “sustainable,” and “small batch” on every bag. Those words mean something. But at Stay Brewed, we put three different words on ours.

Faith. Family. Freedom.

People notice. Some of them write to us about it. Some of them become customers because of it. And occasionally someone asks us — genuinely, not combatively — what we mean by it.

This is our answer.

These Aren’t Marketing Words

We didn’t hire a branding agency to come up with Faith, Family & Freedom. We didn’t A/B test it against “Craft, Community & Care” or run it past a focus group.

These three words are the reason Stay Brewed exists at all.

In 2019, Craig and Lori Weyer launched Stay Brewed Coffee & Roastery out of a garage in Saint Anthony, Indiana. They had seven daughters, a small roaster, and a clear sense of what they were building and why. The values came first. The coffee came second.

When it was time to put words on the bags, there was never really a question about what those words would be.

Faith First — And What That Actually Means

We put faith first because it is first — not just in our tagline, but in how we run this business.

That doesn’t mean Stay Brewed is a church. It doesn’t mean we’re going to preach at you when you open a bag of 1776. What it means is that we believe we are accountable to something bigger than profit, and that conviction shapes every decision we make.

It means we tell the truth — about our coffee, about our shipping, about what you’re getting when you order from us. It means when something goes wrong with an order, Craig answers your email personally and makes it right, because integrity isn’t a customer service strategy for us. It’s a value.

It means we give back. We support our local church. We invest in our community. Not because it’s good for business, but because we believe generosity is the engine of a thriving community, and we want to be part of building one.

And it means we roast every single batch of coffee as if it matters — because we believe that good work, done well, is itself an act of faithfulness. Lawrence Fritz, Craig’s grandfather, worked nights at Alcoa and farmed during the day. He didn’t do that because someone was watching. He did it because that’s who he was. That’s the tradition we’re trying to honor.

Family — The Context for Everything We Do

Stay Brewed is a family business in the most literal sense of that phrase.

Craig and Lori Weyer are husband and wife. They are the parents of seven daughters. The girls have grown up in and around the roastery — doing homeschool lessons at the kitchen table while the roaster hums in the garage, helping with orders, learning what it looks like when two people build something real together.

This is not a side hustle. This is not a vanity project. Stay Brewed is how the Weyer family earns its living and expresses its values, under one roof, every single day.

That matters to us in how we make our coffee. Every roast is crafted by hand and shipped within 72 hours of roasting because your family deserves to receive what our family would want on our own table. We print the roast date on every bag because we’d want to know, and we figure you would too.

And it matters to us in who we’re trying to serve. We’re not targeting the downtown coffee shop crowd who wants a pour-over with tasting notes read aloud by someone with a waxed mustache. We’re roasting for the people who get up early, work hard, love their families, and want a great cup of coffee to anchor the start of their day.

The grandfather and the grandson, quiet before sunrise, cookies and a cup between them. That’s our customer. That’s our community. That’s who we get up every morning to serve.

Freedom — Why It’s on the Bag

Freedom is the conviction underneath everything else.

We believe in the American ideal of industrious, independent people building something real with their own hands. We have an eye toward the tradesmen, farmers, factory workers, and craftsmen — the people who built this country and who keep it running — and a heart for the kind of liberty that makes that life possible.

Starting a business is an act of freedom. Converting a garage into a commercial roastery in a small Indiana town and shipping coffee nationwide is an act of freedom. Homeschooling seven daughters and teaching them that hard work and good values are worth more than any credential — that’s an act of freedom too.

We put “Freedom” on the bag because we want to remember what we’re working toward and what we’re working within. A country where a family in Saint Anthony, Indiana can build something from nothing, serve customers they’ll never meet face to face, and stand for something without apologizing for it.

That’s worth celebrating. So we put it on the bag.

Why It Matters Who You Buy From

We know you have options. There are thousands of coffee brands out there, and some of them make excellent coffee.

But where you spend your money is a choice. Every purchase is a small vote for the kind of business you want to see more of in the world. When you buy Stay Brewed, you’re not just buying fresh-roasted coffee from Indiana — though you are getting that, and it’s very good. You’re supporting a family that is trying to do something right.

A family that puts faith before profit. That raises their kids to value hard work and integrity. That believes in the country they live in and the community they’re part of. That roasts every batch by hand because cutting corners isn’t who they are.

We’re not going to tell you that makes our coffee taste better. But we do think it matters. And if it matters to you too, then you’re already part of this family.

The Name Says It All

Craig’s explanation of the name Stay Brewed has never changed:

“Stay Brewed is there to highlight the journey from point A to point B. The backbone of strong communities is a good work ethic, and it’s a sweaty process. We are here to keep people on that journey, whatever it is, on their toes. Coffee’s the original energy drink.”

Faith keeps you grounded. Family keeps you motivated. Freedom gives you the space to build.

Stay Brewed. Stay the Course.
